Mazda has announced an updated and a brand new face for the 2022 CX-5. It has been a brand best-seller for the past many years. Also praised for its great driving feel, plus generous luxury features and sharp looks. It has a winning formula, plus any tweaks are sure to be met with some blowback.

Mazda Styling

There are changes in styling. In fact, the most visible may be the most controversial. Mazda has given the CX-5 a subtle facelift. In fact, the front fascia is now featuring a wider lower intake. It smooths out some of the design flourishes in the nose. Moreover, the grille does have a textured pattern rather than the current mesh. Then, it has a thicker chrome frame as well. Moreover, it is flanked by headlights housing dual L-shaped LED elements. There are taillights that do repeat the rectangular element theme.

Mazda Trim Levels

The exterior trim has been color-matched to the body on Top-spec 2.5 Turbo Signature models. The resulting amount of panel lines do have less than an elegant look than Mazda had intended.

There is a penultimate Ground Touring Reserve Trim that has been re-christened 2.5 Turbo. It does feature gloss black accents rather than matte black. Moreover, it would mean the cladding around the wheel arches, rocker panels, and front chin spoiler all do look a bit more high-end.

New Fascia

The new facia, in fact, is making the car look like a snout. There is a rare misstep in Mazda’s Kodo design language. It has caused consistently beautiful designs over the years. Moreover, it has round elements in the head- and taillights that have been a Kodo calling card now for over a decade. These rectangle elements do make them look like other luxury car units.
